How You Can Have Security Against Computer Virus and Hackers

It is important to protect your client data against dangers such a computer virus, from theft, hackers, and Adware.

Viruses are just what they sound like. With a computer virus, it takes on the same symptoms as a body does. It gets slower, crashes, (falls asleep) and can cause some of your programs to cease working all together.

Anti-virus software can be purchased to help prevent these viruses from damaging your computer. Some of the better software on the market right now is Norton's Anti-virus software, and McAfee Anti-virus.

They can detect more current viruses than the others, and have frequent updates that protect you from computer viruses.

A hacker's favorite method of getting into a computer is to install Adware to a software program that is downloaded from the internet.

Adware is generally a small virus that is attached to the software itself and is undetected in many software environments. Hackers create these programs to monitor your actions on the internet.

Some of the popular adware viruses on the market now show pop-ups whenever you conduct a search. Some such programs are GAIN, and SHOW BEHIND.

Some viruses attach themselves to document files (most often Microsoft Word or Excel documents. These "macro viruses" use the advanced features of Word, Excel etc. to replicate themselves

Programs like these attach themselves to the windows environment in your computer. You cannot delete them without damaging your windows program.

If you've ever tried to get rid of a program that windows denied access to, or if you get the error message that ends in DLL, you have a virus in your computer. However, it is good to know that not all computer viruses crash your computer. Some just steal your login information so that they can advertise a product with pop-ups.

This type of problem is often solved by using a firewall. Generally firewalls help to prevent certain types of web content from getting into your computer. Firewalls also allow certain content onto your computer. Usually a firewall program will ask you which content to allow on your computer. The problem is that if you don't already know the codes for the content you want to allow, firewalls will not help you.

Firewalls do not prevent or scan for computer viruses or worms. Most people that have put firewalls on their computers have lived to regret it, especially if they do not understand internet or software to begin with. Anti-virus software (click here) can save you from having many headaches.

Program's like ZoneAlarm and McAfee are designed to scan your computer and internet connection for viruses, tell you if you've been infected, and destroy the virus. It is the best investment that you can make for the health of your computer. Click here for helpful virus update site

If you depend on the use of your computer, you can't afford to have your business down, you have to keep it safe from computer viruses, hackers and adware. The small amount of money that you would spend now, can save you the cost of buying a new computer later.

It's always cold and flu season in the computer world. As an advisor you can't afford this kind of sickness. But knowledge is an important key to prevention, and Viruslist.com is an excellent source of information.

Created by information security software vendor Kaspersky Labsmaker of the Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal software, among other applications— Viruslist.com bills itself as "the biggest virus encyclopedia."

It's thorough and informative, with entries sorted into categories of viruses and other nasties, ranging from DOS file viruses to macro viruses to Internet worms. There are even sections on Palm Viruses (just one of those exists so far, according to Viruslist.com) and virus hoaxes (remember NaughtyRobot?). The encyclopedia describes both the category and specific known examples of each.

Viruslist.com also provides updates on the latest virus threats confronting computer users, in the form of virus alerts, a monthly top-20 virus list (a Variety-style chart that tracks virus "popularity"), and virus-related news stories. There's even a calendar section that lets you check which viruses are designed to unleash their payloads on a given day.

Password Security - How Secure are You?

by Pencil Dude

Passwords - we use them every day, here in cyberland. They're used as the first step in identifying ourselves. Yes, we're allowed to logon to this network, because we have the pre-approved password.

They're necessary for our online banking transactions and our online bill payments.

There's almost a gazillion instances where we use passwords but most of us don't think about how easy it is for our lives to be broken into because we chose such an easy password.
